Seattle & Tacoma Mediation Attorneys
Helping clients resolve disputes through mediation
When many people wish to bring a legal claim against another party, they likely immediately think filing a lawsuit and going to trial. In reality, litigation in court, while sometimes necessary, can also be costly and time-consuming. For this reason, a qualified attorney should always explore other methods of dispute resolution that will be more efficient and beneficial than litigation. One of these methods is mediation, and the attorneys at the Dickson Law Group are highly experienced in assisting clients with the mediation process to solve their problems.
If you have a legal dispute and are considering mediation, call our office in Seattle at (206) 621-1110 or in Tacoma at (253) 572-1000 to discuss your case.
The Mediation Process
Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) that involves the adverse parties and a neutral third party known as the mediator. The mediator is trained to guide interactions and negotiations between the parties while promoting compromise and reconciliation in an attempt to reach a settlement without needing litigation. Mediation is often used in legal disputes such as the following:
- Family law cases involving divorce, child custody, spousal support, and similar issues
- Contract disputes
- Landlord Tenant disputes
- Employment conflicts
- Business disputes
If a settlement agreement is reached in mediation proceedings, the case may be resolved, though it is up to the parties to abide by the mediation agreement. This is because mediation agreements are not legally binding. In some cases, if one party does not follow the mediation agreement, the case may end up back in court for a legally binding resolution. However, there are many benefits to at least attempting mediation first, since it is faster and more cost-effective than litigation.
Even though there is a mediator present, it is always important to be represented by an experienced lawyer during mediation proceedings. An attorney can help stand up for your best interests in negotiations and help ensure the other party is not hiding any important information so that you get the most favorable outcome possible.
